Billy Saemann, Director of Internet Marketing – BBQ King
Even though I recently stopped eating meat, I’d be doing the citizens of Charlotte a great disservice if I didn’t let them know what the best (I mean my favorite) restaurant in Charlotte is. Without a doubt, whether you live here, are visiting, or just have a quick layover you have got to get over to the BBQ King on Wilkinson Blvd.
This Charlotte institution has been around since 1959 and it still has the signage and drive-up ordering to prove it. Even though the decor is awesome and it’s got the friendliest staff in town, the real reason to go is for the fried chicken. Make sure you get the BBQ fried chicken. They fry their chicken, then dip it in their famous BBQ sauce, which creates a crispy, juicy, tangy sweet piece of fried chicken.
Just writing this is making me want to start eating meat again. Or at least just a little piece of fried chicken from the King!
James, Creative Director – ZiZi’s Vegetarian Take-Out
Your resident Vegan here again with one of the more unknown Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurants in Charlotte, ZiZi’s Vegetarian Take-Out.
Hidden between shopping centers and the newly developing Charlotte Streetcar expansion project at 7945 North Tryon Street is the unassuming, often overlooked ZiZi’s. Although their storefront says little, their food definitely lives up to the ‘awesome’ in their title.
If you’re not a Vegetarian/Vegan but are curious about switching, ZiZi’s is a great introduction to plant based foods. It’s also great for people on the go, who know the limitations of fast food chains in the area. Healthier eats with some familiarity to any newbie, their menu consists of things like Buffalo “Chicken,” Philly Cheese Steaks, and my personal favorite, the “Fish” & Chips. But tasting is believing so I recommend ZiZi’s for anyone who says “Plants can’t taste like…”
Trish Saemann, Director of Business Development – The Blue Taj
I must admit, I’m torn when it comes to favorite restaurants in Charlotte. I’ve recently made some dietary changes and I’m no longer eating meat, so that has altered my choices in ideal dining establishments. With that said, my favorite place to eat would have to be The Blue Taj in Ballantyne Village. Sister restaurant to Copper on East Blvd, which is also fantastic, I like the Taj for its décor, its location and its amazing food. If you haven’t tried their cauliflower appetizer, cancel your dinner plans and go to the Blue Taj. You won’t regret it.
Brian Saemann, Director of Products & Marketing – Pisces Sushi
As the dad of two young boys, when I get the chance to go out to eat, it is often to one of Charlotte’s fantastic “family” restaurants. While the atmosphere is fun, the food is good and service is friendly, sometimes I crave a little more out of a dining experience. That’s when it’s time for date night!
When I really want to savor my Charlotte dining experience, one of the first places I think of is Pisces Sushi in Mid-Town. When you go – and you’ve got to go – start your night at the bar and enjoy a craft-made cocktail. Charlotte’s best bartender, Bob Peters (@bobthebartender), has taken his skills and love of cocktails to The Punch Room but not before endowing the staff at Pisces with the ingredients, skills and love to continue the tradition on their own.
After you’ve enjoyed a delectable cocktail, let the food begin. First off, let me say the sushi is incredible. It doesn’t matter what you choose, it will be some of the best you’ve ever had. But I can say that the Frying Nemo, Screaming O and Shellfish Bastard rolls aren’t to be missed.
If sushi isn’t your thing, Pisces still delights. The Pork Belly Bun is the best appetizer in Charlotte, and while the duck preparation changes with the seasons it is always awesome.
If you’re looking for something a little different, or just want to have an incredible date night, give Pisces Sushi a try – you’ll thank me after!
Ali Phalen, Content & Social Media Manager – Owen’s Bagel & Deli | Cowfish
Choosing my favorite Charlotte restaurant is a bit of a challenge. Between all the great options for sushi, cheeseburgers, Mexican and more – there are far too many to choose just one. That’s why I’m including my favorite lunch and dinner place in Charlotte.
It’s no secret around the office that one of my favorite places to grab a delicious sandwich is Owen’s Bagel and Deli. Their bagel sandwiches are life-changing. I mean it. Whether you choose the Tonya Harding Club or the K-Fed or Mary’s Grubby Bubby or to build your own, trust me – this will become a regular stop for your lunches. While they might be out of commission right now (some not-so-awesome person drove a car into the back of their building), if you follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram you’ll get updates on their progress.
For dinner, one of my favorite Charlotte restaurants combines two of my favorite things – sushi and cheeseburgers. Yup that’s right, Cowfish. While they might have had some issues lately, that doesn’t stop me from listing them as one of my favorite restaurants in Charlotte. Their food is seriously AWESOME. From delicious burgers to their life-changing sushi rolls, you’re sure to find something you love on their huge menu! If you can’t pick between getting a burger or sushi, get a combo of both with burger sushi! But, even if you can’t find the thing you’re craving, then you can build your own sushi roll. However, speaking as someone who built her own sushi, I’d recommend getting one off their menu. Check out Cowfish on Facebook to follow along with their latest news and pictures!
